Advancing under fire

by Pastor Simon

Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Luke 6:26 - NKJV

Soldiers who go over the top for an advance get shot at. The only soldiers who don't find themselves under fire are the ones keeping their heads out of sight in the trenches. I was shot at this week. I came under fire from some of those fiery darts we read about in Ephesians chapter 6. It wasn't for religious reasons; someone just didn't like the idea of me gaining ground in his realm of activity.

Coming under fire comes as a sudden and great shock to most Christians. They seem to have the idea that they're meant to be pleasing everyone's ears and getting a glowing report from all quarters. This only happens, though, when your life is a threat to no one and no one's territory. Whenever you become a rising influence in any field of endeavour then you are immediately viewed as a threat by those who covetously occupy that field at present. The shooting will start as soon as you're noticed.

"Do not be overcome by evil," Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, "but overcome evil with good." He was calling you to stand up and be counted. Stick your neck out in order that good may triumph. Be an influence for good wherever you are, whatever you're doing! Get your character, thinking, vision and direction from God then start quietly and cooperatively influencing things forwards and for the better. Fiery darts are going to be shot at you from time to time but at those times recall this promise, "No weapon formed against you will prosper!" See Isa.54:17.

Be God's person wherever you are.
