Soul or Spirit
He answered and said to me: "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts."
Zechariah 4:6 - NKJV
I was asked, "What should you do if you are attacked by arm robber(s) if you have the chance and time to defend yourself?" I answered, "Your mind is taking you off in the wrong direction. You should respond to such images with declarations from God's Word about His protection and His equipping of the saints and not what physical force you may or may not be able to employ!"
Will we respond soulishly or spiritually to what comes up? The soul thinks soulishly and grasps at natural resources for solutions. In contrast, the spirit, and therefore the spiritual man, knows he needs God and that only in seeking God and His resources can full solutions be found. "Is there a problem in that?" you ask "Won't the soulish solutions do?" No. The solutions the soulish man comes up with regularly fall short of covering every angle. They may temporarily fix the obvious threat or problem but, in their aftermath, turn up undesired outcomes. Such outcomes then become complications that are hard to rectify.
The spiritual man resorts to God for solutions. His solutions are perfect. If a bad circumstance shows up ask yourself, "What equipping has the Lord provided for the saints in order that it may be well with them and that they may prosper in this situation?" For example, when my imagination gives me a threatening picture of danger then my spirit man responds with a spiritual picture: I see myself praying, commanding or rebuking in the name of Jesus! While this world offers the might of men's hands, God gives the power of His Spirit, the reliability of His promises and the authority of the name of Jesus.
Seek God for His rescue plans!
