God's women of faith
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!"
John 19:26-27
The Lord has a heart and vision for women! The scripture portion above shows His loving concern and care for one woman, His mother, and also His vision for how her grace and gifts could bless another. Women have always played a special role in God's plan and good news to mankind.
As well as Mary the mother of Jesus, also consider Hannah the mother of Samuel. Think also of Esther who saved God's people from annihilation in the time of the Jewish exile. There was also Deborah, the prophetess and judge of Israel, who helped lead Israel's troops to victory and liberty for God's people from oppression. And who was the first one commissioned to witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ? It was a woman disciple called Mary Magdalene! As the story of the Samaritan woman (the one who met Jesus at the well) makes plain, women can present a powerful witness that Jesus is the living Christ. 1 Sam.1-2, Est.4-8, Jud.4, Joh.20:17, Joh.4:39-42.
If you are a woman, are you realising how much God can use you through His grace in His Church and His Kingdom? If you are a man, are you acknowledging the special contribution woman make and can make in all our lives in the Church? Men, encourage, seek and appreciate the contribution women make in all areas of life and ministry. Women, minister the gifts of God you have and you will be known as "a good steward of the manifold grace of God". 1Pet.4:10.
Let the women receive ministry and honour!
