Are you enjoying the green pastures promised to you by the Great Shepherd? If not, perhaps you're behaving like you're still penned in! Jesus' parable of the sheep and the shepherd (John 10) is a story of the sheep being collected from the pen (or sheepfold) and led by the shepherd out to green pasture. Jesus defines Himself as both the Gate and the Shepherd of that story!
Jesus came to lead you out of confinement and up to where you can freely move about in pastures of tender grass. He is the way out of the holding zone - the Gate. He is the Shepherd - the One you can confidently follow to the lush pasture lands. The holding zone is where the sheep were kept safe until Jesus could come. The lush pasture lands are where the sheep can now live in Christ. It's the place where you can experience the redemption you have through Jesus! Are you enjoying this place where you have the freedom to flourish? If not, what's penning you in? What's keeping you in the pen when Jesus has made the way for you to enter into real life? Psa.23:1-2, 118:5, Joh.10:10.
Have confidence in your Shepherd to keep you on the lush, open pastures! The holding zone for the sheep might feel secure but in staying there you're missing out on life beyond your dreams. Open your ears to Jesus' call for you to come out of the sheep pen. Set aside your doubts and fears at the sound of the Shepherd's voice. Watch His lead and follow Him to His green pasture lands! Micah 5:4.
Follow Christ into the Kingdom's broad places!
