Life in the Word

by Pastor Simon

I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure.

Psalm 119:62 - NKJV

Imagine someone coming out of a desert place and finding a pool of clear water. He would plunge into it and revel in it. This can be your experience of God's Word. You can rejoice in God's Word, you can revel in it. Your experience of God's Word can be like that of Ezekiel who, in being taken in the spirit to the river of life, found it so deep a person had to swim! "It was a river one could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim." Ezek.47:5.

One of the first signs of a deteriorating physical condition is a lose of appetite. This is true spiritually too - something isn't quite right on the inside when your spiritual appetite is poor. You need a hearty appetite for the spirit and life of God's Word. Guard and watch over your spiritual appetite. Jesus said, "The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." This reveals the refreshing, life giving power of God's Word. It was the prophet Jeremiah's spiritual activity that made him hunger for God's Word and on receiving it he declared, "Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart." Your spiritual appetite improves by spiritual activity. Joh.6:63, Jer.15:16.

Awaken and stir up your spiritual appetite with spiritual activity! Pray in the Holy Spirit. Serve God with praise and worship. Engage in intercession for others. Share the Gospel. Minister to a friend a Bible verse that's alive to you. These are all spiritual activities - as you do them your thirst for God's Word will increase. Prov.4:22.

Be revived by the water of the word!
