Greatness within
Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:12b-13 - NKJV
God doesn't give up on us and He doesn't give up on the plans He has declared in His Word. Quitting is not in God's repertoire! He will see it all through to the end. How much like this are we? Do we follow through to the end on ventures we've embarked on? Or do we quit when the going gets tough? 1 Thes.5:24, Heb.10:38.
What makes the difference between the champion and the ordinary athlete? For one thing, the champion strives onwards no matter how tough the going gets. Even when, in the pain of the race, he is tempted to quit he doesn't quit. Instead, he applies the power to see things through. He goes through his pain barrier and finds refreshing on the other side. This experience develops a champion's character in him. People with character like that are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside. Their inner character starts to see them through. Rom.5:3-5.
In old age Abraham didn't consider his outer condition, his physical body, instead he resorted to his inner condition - the stature of his soul and spirit. He was mighty on the inside and, acting out of that strength, he endured. As a result he came through to the victory - the moment when the promised son was born! God had been at work in him building his inner character making him able to endure. May you know God at work in you! May you see your victory! May the world say, "He may not look much on the outside but he's sure got it on the inside!" Rom.4:19-20, 1 Joh.4:4
Grow mighty through God on the inside!
