Divine Protection

by Pastor Simon

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great.

Psalm 18:35 - NKJV

Where does my protection come from in the Lord? You might answer, "His angels watch over you!" That is certainly true and I rejoice in it. Indeed, I have had personal, dramatic experience of angelic protection. There's more, though, to divine protection than that. God's protection isn't just surrounding me like a shield. It is also under me upholding me. What's more it is even right within me! God's got it covered from every angle.

King David the psalmist sang of the three-dimensional scope of God's protection. Most Christians only think about it surrounding them. This is divine defense. Some Christians think about it upholding them. This is divine support. It is only a few Christians who realise there's also an inner expression of God's power to protect. This comes by divine gentleness. I have to confess gentleness isn't naturally in me. It is by God's Spirit that I can have divine gentleness. Divine gentleness is part of the fruit of the Spirit. The presence of divine gentleness in me affords me protection. Gal.5:22-23.

Gentleness is the forgotten tenet of Paul's life-style teaching for victorious Christian living! See Phil.4:4-9. What is this divine gentleness? It often shows up as sweet reasonableness. It is treading in life lightly. It is looking to understand rather than be understood. It is being slow to react to situations and quick to respond to God's Spirit. Live in gentleness and you'll know an added dimension to your divine protection! Prov.15:1.

Let your gentleness be known.
