Heroes of faith
We also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [i.e., the heroes of faith of chapter 11], let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1 - NKJV
My church was operating what we called a "Prayer Link". As I took over my turn I got a picture. It came as I looked at the names of the people who had prayed before me. The picture I got was of a corridor of prayer created by those who had prayed. Then the Spirit said, "See what's happened? It has been made it easier for you to go forwards in prayer by these brethren praying ahead of you in the same way as people treading over snow make it easier for those coming behind them."
Thank God for the men and women of God - heroes of faith - who have gone before us! They have made the way of faith easier for us. We can step forwards on what they have done, pick up their journey and, with their notes of encouragement, take it on further. By walking in the steps they first took we have reached where they reached still feeling fresh. Now we can go on further than they ever did.
You have faith ancestors who have left you a great faith inheritance. They shout their encouragement from the balcony above the stage of this life. I get excited reading the words and actions of faith recorded for us by the prophets. I experience this too in the writings of Andrew Murray and notes of sermons by Smith Wigglesworth - to name just two contemporary heroes of faith. And besides all this, we have Christian brothers and sisters world-wide alive today and benefiting us by their prayers and words.
Heroes of faith have given you a head start
