God's Word won't crumble away

by Pastor Simon

Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:15 - NKJV

Some Christians always seem to be seeking out or grasping for what's novel in church. What are you seeking out or grasping for in your Christian life? It's good to stay current. Indeed, we need to have an ear for ministry that presents God's Word relevantly and freshly for the times we live. However, whenever you grasp for the new do so in order that you may have a better grasp on God's "pattern of sound words".

"Sound words" are well-founded words that won't crumble away. To such words you can safely commit your weight. Paul calls out to you, "Hold fast the pattern of sound words!" There's plenty going on to shift you away from sound words so stay hooked in to their pattern. "Hold fast" means keep a tight grasp on. Hold it so it won't get away from you! The apostle Paul knew what he was talking about when he penned those words. He wrote his letters from spiritual revelation and from practical experience. He'd been there. He'd stepped out on a pattern of sound words as the Holy Spirit had revealed it to him and found it held all his weight. There was not a crack or crumble in sight!

Keep a good grip on that pattern of sound words! With a good grip on it you will maintain your grasp on it at all times. How do you do keep a good grip on it? Firstly, by taking time daily for God's Word in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Secondly, it's by taking to heart - in the faith and love found in Christ Jesus - what the Holy Spirit ministers to your heart.

Hold on to the pattern of sound words!
