Turn arounds!

by Pastor Simon

Jesus began to be making a public proclamation...saying, Be repenting, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near and is imminent.

Matthew 4:17 - Wuest's Expanded translation

I was reading in Wuest's translation the verse above when the grammatical tense of it jumped out at me. You have to realise Wuest tackled Greek tenses that we don't have in English with adaptations of ones we do have and so here we get to read, "Be repenting!" Now I think that requires us to reflect on its meaning, don't you?

Be repenting - no, that doesn't mean start spinning like a top by making continuous 180 degree turns! It does mean, though, be ready to make a turn around as you realise something in your life is taking you in the wrong direction - out of the loving fear of God and away from being Christ-like. As we grow in Christ and learn more of His ways, we realise there is much about our lives that needs changing. God's Word, His Spirit and His grace impart to us new priorities and new understanding of what's right and good. There needs to be a response in us to this. Ro.12:2.

Here are four responses you can make - each one of them will enhance your life, blessing you and making you more of a blessing. 1. Be restructuring your daily schedule to take account of new priorities. 2. Be redefining your realms of activities and roles in life. 3. Be reshaping your relationships with others to God's glory. 4. Be rebuilding the structures of your life so your life reflects godliness at work in you. Col.2:6-7.

Respond to that move for change God's Spirit encourages in you!
