The Bible is my map

by Pastor Simon

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place.

2 Peter 1:19 - KJV

The Bible provides us with counsel, divine instruction and more. It also provides us with the fore announcing of events to come. The Bible has announcements that predict the future as it pertains to the Kingdom of God. The birth of Christ was prophesied in this way. His second coming also has a fore announcing in scripture. As a Christian the landscape of life is to be illuminated for you by what the Bible has to say.

What might you say to others about a recent event? Well, it all depends on whether you saw it coming up on the Bible's map of the future. On this matter, Leslie Gaston shared with me this insight. "When I was younger I learnt to fly a light aircraft. My instructor constantly declared, 'Read from map to ground - never the reverse!' I had to observe the ground from the map. Making ground sightings and then attempting to locate them on the map always led trainee flyers into errors and lose of direction. My instructor would say, 'Keep on the bearing the map says. Let the map inform you. By it you'll come to your destination.' I have carried this principle over to the Bible and life. I read from map (the Bible) to ground (life). This guides me through and keeps me informed."

Fly by the map! Refer to the Bible's prophetic map of the future. It will tell you where you are and what's coming up next. Then, when that next event occurs, you will find yourself at ease that the journey is on track to the divine destination. This is good navigation. (Note what isn't good navigation: the reverse, namely, spotting an event first and from it trying to pinpoint a prophetic utterance.)
