Reaching the clearing
They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.
Psalm 18:18-19 - NKJV
It seems to happen to me at some time in every week - that sense that there's everything to be done and not enough time, resources and strength to do it. I get my direction from the Lord but there comes that moment when the going gets tough. Whether it's life in general, work or some other aspect of life, it's tough when you can't see far ahead and the way forward seems like heavy going.
King David's testimony, as provided in so many of his psalms, reminds me that God's help is at hand. In tough times and in trials I know I have to stay on my walk of faith. I have to stay expectant of God making a way for me through the rough and into the good. What always then surprises me is how quickly things change! When I keep on going a bit further my break through comes. I walk on and suddenly the dark forest of this moment in my life opens up and I arrive out in a bright, peaceful clearing. How good it is to stand in the clearing! David calls this place in life a "broad place". It's a place where you are no longer hemmed in but are able to flourish and grow! 2Cor.4:16-18.
Work your way out from where you are into the clearing! Work your way out led and empowered by what God is working in you! Paul exhorted the Philippians, "Keep on toiling to complete your salvation." Toil on so you'll be able to walk on. Continue on in what's set before you until you can break through into the clearing, the promised broad place. Get there and you'll be able to see again, breath again and rest again. Phil.2:12.
A bit further and you'll be out!
