Health and healing
You shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
Exodus 23:25 - NKJV
God wants His people to be well! This has always been His desire. Both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament God's prophets have passed on God's promises of health to His people. They have also given us God's counsel on how to walk in this provision of health. Psa.103:3, Prov.4:20-22, 3Joh.2.
Clearly, in the Church not everyone is healed but anecdotal stories about John or Mary Christian getting sicker even though they prayed for healing do not make God's healing promises void. Indeed, in the face of set backs your desire to know the counsel of God on health and healing should not dwindle but grow. God in His Word has promised you healing. This should be good enough for you even if you have never as yet seen anything of it. Your confidence in God and His Word ought to carry you forwards to the place where you can receive what He has promised you. God's word is true and His promises are sure! Nu.23:19, Ro.3:4, Ro.4:19-21.
There are moments when I am sick. At such times I do everything I know to do - all the counsel I have found God has given in scripture - to see health re-established in me. I open my Bible and review all the promises I know on health and healing. I pray with these promises and I pray in the Spirit. I call for prayer from others. Spiritually I realise there's a fight but I don't back off. I offer the sacrifice of praise and spend time rejoicing even in the midst of the trial. God has health for me and I'm determined to get myself to it. How about you? Heb.10:35-36, 1Pet.2:24.
God has health for you in Christ!
