Light in the darkness
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
Isaiah 9:2 - NKJV
People in desperate situations need light. Death casts a shadow over people's lives and there is a darkness resulting that is almost unbearable. If you've ever been in a desperate state you'll know what I'm talking about. Where are people who find themselves in darkness to turn? Who are they to turn to for light? Praise the Lord that He has given us a promise of light in darkness for all people! Psa.107:10-16, Isa.50:10.
My heart goes out to the men, women and children whose lives death has cast a shadow over. How can I pray for them? How can I turn my emotional longing for their release into the fervour of prayer? The scripture above, that precious promise of God found in Isaiah chapter 9, does it for me! That promise means I have all confidence and know that God desires and intends for those in darkness to find light. You and I can pray on the basis of the sureness of that promise. By it we know God's good desire for the afflicted people. Isa.9:6.
And what about you? Are you threatened by darkness and have a sense of desperation as a result? Realise this, God has shone in your heart giving you the light of the knowledge of the glory of God as it's seen in the face of Jesus Christ. This light is your light. The darkness cannot overcome it. Turn towards that light and let it cause you to see again. In that light see that God has help and rescue for you. 2Cor.4:6, Heb.13:5-6.
In His light see His helping hand!
