What is God's Spirit saying?
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Revelation 3:22 - NKJV
Here's a scene to picture. A son comes to his father and he wants something. The son says, "I want this thing my heart's set on Dad and I want it today." "Wait a moment son," says the father, "There are some other factors involved here. There are some things you need to give attention to." The son isn't listening to the father's response but only looking to get his desire and so he continues, "Dad, you aren't listening to me. I asked you for something and you're supposed to give it me right now!" The son wanted the father's ear but he wasn't prepared to give the father his.
What of our Heavenly Father and His sons on earth? Does our Heavenly Father only get a presentation of demands and very little listening? Maybe it is for this reason that seven times in just two chapters the Holy Spirit says, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches!" We have got spiritual ears, let's be sure we are hearing what the Spirit is saying. You can be sure the Holy Spirit is speaking. The prophet Isaiah declares, "Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, 'This is the way, walk in it." Isa.30:21.
As you present your request in prayer ask yourself, "What is the Father saying to me by His Spirit that's related to this request?" Tune into the Holy Spirit and you'll learn something. You'll hear directions and you'll get the understanding you need that will often open up a way to receiving what you have requested. So often the answer you seek with your prayer request will come as you act on the counsel or wisdom He imparts to you by His Holy Spirit while you are praying.
Don't just ask God, listen to God!
