People with missions
Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.
Ephesians 5:20-21 - NKJV
"Submitting to one another" isn't an idea many people greet with much gladness. Now why should that be? Usually it's a concept problem - how you think about it gives you a hard time. You think submitting has to do with doing what you don't want to do. You get all worked up about having to submit. Really, though, you haven't got a proper idea of what submitting is. The Greek word translated as "submit" is "hupotasso". Hupotasso can be translated as submission. Let's try out using the word "submission".
If I'm in the kitchen I may be helping out. When I am, I am in submission to my wife. She's in charge of the kitchen. This is because she's got more know how and experience there than I have. Let's say I'm wiping the surfaces. OK, I can handle that. Nevertheless, the cleansing mission I'm on is under my wife, which means, where necessary she gives directions. That's submission! You see "submission" has two parts - MISSION and SUB! SUB means "under" (think of a submarine) and MISSION is about you going out to perform something for others.
I'm eager to be in my next role of submission; it's fun having a mission under someone's guidance! Of course, in getting this working properly those who are in "overmission" may need our prayers - perhaps they need a concept change about what submission is! If you can change your concept of something you can change how you get on with it. I hope today you'll allow your concept of submitting to be changed.
Teamwork has an opportunity and a reward!
