An experience of God
Paul stood...and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: 'To the unknown God'. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you."
Acts 17:22-23 - NKJV
My son John at age 17 spoke before a large gathering of parents and students. There had been little time for him to prepare so I counselled him, "Just speak from a basic outline." We then prayed together. Everyone had become restless before his speech but this changed the moment he began speaking. A scripted speech would have been a failure but his "off the cuff" style hit the mark. He got a loud applause. John was ecstatic. He knew he had experienced God with him!
Experiencing God should characterise our Christianity. Apostle Paul in his preaching to the men of Athens called on them to know the one whom they called "the unknown God". Sadly, there are people in sects and denominations today who while speaking of Christ still rarely know God as a close Heavenly Father. For example, in the 1980s I ministered to young Mormon missionaries out in Thailand. They were sweet in character but lacked that experience of a touch of God in their lives that causes us to say, "We know God".
As Bible-believing, Spirit-filled Christians, we can have an incomparable experience of God with us. We and our children should have this and those around us should see its impact in our lives and hear about it in our conversation. This will turn them away from the deceit of false religion. It will draw them to a vibrant relationship with Christ.
Show and share the God you can know!
