The conditional "if" word

by Pastor Simon

Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:3-4 - NKJV

Those two verses at the start are from Psalm 37. Psalm 37 provides a guide to receiving your heart's desire. I regularly refer to it as a reminder of how things need to be in my life. I start in verse three and reflect on each phrase through to verse eight. It's a spiritual refresher course you too can put yourself on. Use it to check you're in the right place.

At home my wife, Ruth, likes to keep ice-cream as a special dessert. We all get to have ice-cream at the end of dinner on Sunday! Occasionally, if there's a delay, one of the children will have drifted away from the table. If so, Ruth calls out, "If you want ice-cream you'd better come back to the table!" Now why does she call that condition out? Because at the table is where ice-cream is being served, not at the desk, TV or computer! Spiritually God calls out conditions, conditions that put us in the right place to receive. Be positioned in soul and spirit in the place where receiving from God is possible.

God prefaces promises with conditions not to exclude you but to draw you into them. He gives a promise and with the promise He gives a condition. The format is like my wife's call to the table for ice-cream! For example, Jesus gave us this promise, "If you maintain a living communion with me and my words are at home in you, I command you to ask, at once, something for yourself, whatever your heart desires, and it will become yours." Joh.15:7 - Wuest's translation.

At the Lord's table are the Lord's blessings!
