Troubles of your own making

by Pastor Simon

In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.

2 Chronicles 16:9 - NKJV.

A lot of the troubles we experience have got nothing to do with the devil. They are of our own making. We have brought them upon ourselves or got ourselves into them through our own "foolishness".

The chief means by which you yourself invite troubles into your own life are the following: 1) Failing to seek the Lord for His guidance and wisdom in situations you face. 2) Ignoring the godly counsel available to you and instead leaning to your own understanding of what to do. 3) Going ahead with things without checking or waiting for the Lord's green light. 4) Letting your tongue get lose so it speaks without the taming, controlling influence of the Holy Spirit. 5) Letting your behaviour get outside of the sphere of conduct that the fruit of the Spirit provides. In summary, all these things are what the Bible calls "sowing to the flesh". Isa.55:6; Prov.3:5; 1 Sam.13:8-14; Ja.3:5-6; Gal.5:22-23, 6:8.

How are you going to stop reaping the harvest of troubles coming from your sowing to the flesh? Confess your fault to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness. Repent - which means you turn yourself around onto the track of doing and saying things God's way. Some years ago when we started looking to the Lord for our finances turn around He looked to us and said, "Well, what about all the negative confessions you've been making about your financial state?" We accepted responsibility for it. Asked forgiveness and started changing the way we spoke. Soon things by God's grace were getting put right and working out well.

God's way is the best way!
