Living in faith

by Pastor Simon

Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God".

Mark 11:22 - NKJV

How is your faith in God today? Here are a couple of quiz style questions: 1) Who did Jesus say this about, "I have not found so much faith as this with anyone, even in Israel"? 2) Who did He say this to, "How is that you have no faith"? The answer to the question one is a soldier who was a centurion. The answer to question two is His disciples. Mat.8:10, Mar.4:40.

What an unusual situation! You'd have thought the disciples should have been in a condition of great faith and the centurion in one of no faith. What made it that the situation was the way round it was? It seems the centurion while living in Israel had received with a believing heart what he'd heard told about God. This had given him his commendable faith. What about the disciples? Yes, they had received God's word through Jesus. However, a problem arose on the Sea of Galilee. In the tribulation of a storm they got offended at Jesus' inactivity. Their offence impacted hard on the power of God's Word to give them faith. They were left in a state of "no faith"! Ro.10:17, Mar.4:5-6,17.

At the moment, is the state of your faith suffering like that of the disciples in the storm? If it is, perhaps it's because you've taken offence at God over what you consider to be His inactivity regarding something you're sure He should taken action by now on. There might be another cause though. For example, do you doubt God's story of the origin of man and his world? That story was written down by God's prophet Moses. Of Moses' writings Jesus said, "If you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me." Joh.5:47, Heb.4:2.
