Committal
Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22 - NKJV
The default setting on human life is: what you haven't put in God's hands is in your hands. God's act of giving man free will set things up that way. How then do you get something into God's hands? You commit it to Him in prayer! You decide you will rely on God to bring things to a good conclusion and with that you deposit with Him everything related to it. This doesn't mean you walk away from all action and speech related to it necessarily but it does mean you leave with Him all the care, burden or anxiety you had about it. Psa.37:5.
Committal is foundational to my prayer life. I commit people, events, things, ideas and myself to God's care. I release them into God's care. I get them off my heart and into His hands where He can do something about them. In this way I cease from being anxious for them. With this His peace takes over in my mind and heart. His peace settles me down to rest in Him expecting His good outcome. It leaves me free to serve the Lord with lightness of soul and spirit. It liberates me from concern to get on with the speech and actions He leads me to take by His Spirit and His Word. Phil.4:6-7.
Committing things into God's hands has to be part of your Christian lifestyle. It will one of the things which distinguishes you from those around you. Those around you will be fretting or shaken but you will be resting in your God. As things come up you cast the care of them on God. By the requests you make to God you let Him take charge. In this way you can continue to do what you know you can do while you are confident in God to do the rest. 1Pet.5:7, Psa.112:6-8.
