A hunger for communion with God

by Pastor Simon

The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

John 4:23 - NKJV

How's your daily prayer time? Most of us realise our prayer time should be more than just a moment of quiet speaking religious sounding requests to God in Heaven. Most of us want to meet with God in the spirit and so, like David, "behold in His sanctuary His power and His glory". How can we get ourselves into that place? Psa.63:2.

There is in you is a spiritual hunger for communion with God. How is that hunger to be satisfied? For myself, I have a particular time and a particular place for my morning devotions. This helps me set that time apart for God. Nevertheless, regularly I find there is an inertia of this present life that has to be overcome before I can roll in the spirit having fellowship with God. How do I go about overcoming that inertia? What works best for me is to open my Bible to psalms and start reading them aloud. The Book of Psalms was the hymn book of the second temple.

What you want to be doing in your prayer time is communing with God in spirit and in truth. As a child of God you want to be meeting in spirit with the Father of spirits. God is a spirit and so are you. The Psalmist in psalms lends you his voice with which to lift up your spirit into the presence of God. As you read psalms you are hearing the Psalmist's devotional voice. Make that voice your own voice. Take that voice up and use it to break free from earth to worship in spirit.

Have prayer time in the spirit
