The Holy Spirit's voice
Walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
Acts 9:31 - NKJV
A Christian in Nigeria asked me about the Holy Spirit. His question was one Christians often ask. He wrote, "How do we access the Holy Spirit as one we can easily communicate with." In essence he posed the question, "How do you recognise the Holy Spirit's voice so you can respond to Him as a friend?"
Wonderfully, you don't have to be concerned about getting the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Nor do you have to be concerned about hearing when He speaks. Jesus assured you the Holy Spirit would speak to you. He also assured you you would hear Him. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice!" So what is needed? The need is for you to learn to recognise the Holy Spirit's voice. As one of His sheep, how do you recognise that voice? Firstly, know that He speaks in your heart. You will hear His voice as a gentle whisper there. Joh.16:13, Joh.10:27, 1Kgs.19:12.
Like a child learns to recognise his mother's voice so you have to learn to recognise the Spirit's voice. The new born child knows that the voice he hears when he feeds on mother's milk is the voice of his mother. He learns that in this voice he can take comfort and trust. We are to learn that way too. The voice we hear when we feed on the sincere milk of the word of God is the voice of the Holy Spirit. It is to this voice that we are to become attuned. Get to know that voice. Be familiar with it. Then you will recognise the Spirit's voice any time any where. 1Pet.2:2.
