Opening ears to hear!
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 - NKJV
I went to Catholic schools from the age of 6 until I was 18. There I heard the word of God read but it was, as it were, only an historic word. By historic I don't mean it wasn't interesting but in its significance it was like history. It may have stimulated my intellect but it didn't trigger any spiritual reaction in me.
Five years after that I was searching for a way in life. On that search I was living in Holland, training to be a contemporary dancer and doing stuff like eastern meditation. Then I met people with Jesus shining through their eyes. This turned me from looking to the Far East for truth to looking to the Near East for it. I looked to Jesus of Nazareth. Three months or so later I was saved. I confessed Jesus as Lord and Christ. In between time a spiritual reaction had taken place in me. It happened when the word of God came to me speaking to my heart as a current and vibrantly relevant word. This caused me to start eagerly hearing the utterances that find their source with God.
The word of God arriving at a person's heart alerts his spiritual ears to a message coming from Heaven. Before that he has no hearing for the awesome spiritual story coming from the throne of God. Until the word of God is planted in his heart he only hears the utterances of this world. Let us pray and minister God's word so that people who are lost may be saved. May the word of God be ministered to their hearts through it coming to them as a living word. May we pray and see them receiving the word of God as for them personally.
God's word can change someone's life!
