Rhythms of grace
Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.
Matthew 11:28-30 - The Message Translation
This morning I was struggling under the weight of tasks needing my attention. It was clear that time would only allow me to get a small fraction of them done. I got into prayer, seeking release from the weight of it. The Lord then drew me to the exhortation, "Learn the unforced rhythms of grace." This was His lesson for me directed at getting me back to living freely and lightly.
Yesterday I got out of step with those rhythms of grace. I set about doing something I directed me to do. It was my idea rather than the Lord's. As a consequence it was an ill-fitting task. In it I didn't experience myself living freely and lightly. Praise God, I'm back in the rhythms of grace now. After this morning's lesson from the Lord I made two commitments. The first, "I will labour in the fields where I find God's grace accompanying me." The second, "I will leave work on tasks where grace for me seems short for a later time or another day." Where God's grace is there I can rest in the Lord while working in His field. Mat.11:28-30.
I hear you say, "I have a boss here who tells me this task before me must be done now regardless." Maybe. However, can it be done with a different approach? Can it be done in a different order? Seek where the flow of God's grace is for your life today! Look to the Holy Spirit for His directions through prompts, nudges and intimations so you can march in step with those rhythms. Change step so you can get into the rhythms of grace. There is grace for you in the place where His presence goes with you. Exo.33:14-16.
If God is in it, His grace will be also.
