Divine Support

by Pastor Simon

The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.

Psalms 37:23-24 - New Living Translation

God our Heavenly Father has a grip on each one of His children to prevent them from falling flat out. You may momentarily stumble but God has a hand on you to right you and set you on your feet again. Trust in the security of that grip. He will not let you utterly crash out. You can, though, get scarily close to it if you thrash and panic in moments when your life goes out of balance. Isa.41:10, Psa.73:23.

At college while studying physical education I did a life-saving course. The instructor told us to beware of people in difficulty in the water who were thrashing about in a blind panic. They were hard to save. It was hard to get near them. It was very troublesome to pull them around into a position in which you could save them and ferry them to safety. We practiced "saving" each other in a swimming pool. We even had people simulate being in panic. It soon became clear that when the swimmer in trouble simply relied on the rescuer then the rescue happened easily. On the other hand, with wildly thrashing people you could only wait for them to stop.

Apply this lesson to your relationship with the Lord. You are often the swimmer in trouble and He is often your rescuer. Accept His grasp on you. Accept His arms upholding you. Accept Him lifting your head up in safety. Accept Him transporting you to solid ground. Rest on Him in gratitude and confidence. Psa.27:6, Psa.23:4.

God's got a grip on you!
