Faith and action

by Pastor Simon

Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

Luke 9:62 - NKJV

I see a lot of Christians around who are frustrated or disappointed at promises of God not having fulfilment in their lives. In almost every case I think, "How can they expect fulfilment when they are not doing the things or going to the places where fulfilment can occur?" Take a fresh look at the Bible verse that I've started this devotional message with. We read that verse and rightly emphasis the error we make when we look back. Don't fail to notice, though, that the Lord takes it for granted that you will set your hand to the plough. He expects that you will not stand around on the edge of the field! It's sad when a Christian does not go because he says, "But I might look back!"

"I know," the spiritual man says, "God has made promises to me so I may see good." He then asks himself, "What actions can I engage in that get me in the vicinity of where fulfilment of those promises can occur?" The spiritual man intends to be in the right corridor when the door of opportunity swings open. When it does he'll be ready to step through it. The spiritual man is an active man because he constantly engages in the actions that correspond to faith. Procrastination isn't a problem suffered by the spiritual man for he heeds the voice of the Spirit and pays no attention to the soul as it gives reasons for inactivity. Ja.2:14,17.

"Alright, I see I should be actively involved in the promise having fulfilment," you say, "But where am I supposed to go or what am I supposed to do?" This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. The Holy Spirit has been given to you as your companion so you can know what step to take. Hear Him! Get still so His whisper in your heart can be heard. Go by what you hear Him putting in your heart to do! Isa.30:21, Psa.32:8.

Follow the Holy Spirit into action
