Spiritual dawn

by Pastor Simon

To you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings.

Malachi 4:2 - NKJV

Did you experience your new birth as a spiritual dawn? Were the days after your salvation days of new light? As for me, I have fond and special memories of the days immediately after my salvation. Those days were days when I was revelling in a new found light for life and a newly received spiritual liberation.

One incident particularly stands out from my first days as a Christian. I was discovering scriptures like John 1:12 from the Christians who had led me in prayer to receive Jesus. At the time, I was living in Rotterdam, Holland and the study was taking place in a basement flat behind Rotterdam central station. For a break I took a chair out into the garden to sit in the late Summer sun. As I sat that I found myself taking firm grasp of the under-sides of the chair seat. I had such a sense of lightness, such a sense of a weight having been removed from off me that I felt there was nothing otherwise to prevent me going upwards. My grip on the chair was a instinctive reaction to a feeling that I might float away!

At times you need to rehearse the memories you have of the days immediately after you got saved. Remember that initial zeal you had. Remember the experiences of excitement you had over your salvation through Jesus. Paul exhorted the Hebrew Christians to something like this when he wrote to them, "Recall the former days after you were illuminated". At your salvation the Sun of Righteousness arose over you like the dawning of day. Heb.10:32.

Revel in the light of God!
