God labels you well in Christ

by Pastor Simon

Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, 'I am strong.'

Joel 3:10 - NKJV

People label you and then relate to you according to that label. This can be good or it can be bad. It depends on the label. You label yourself and then conduct yourself accordingly. For the most part, you act out your life according to the many labels you've given yourself. Again, this can be good or it might be bad. It depends on what labels you've given to yourself.

"I am a believer" is a positive label. You want to be calling yourself that positive label and you want others to call you that too. It is the one of the first label changes someone needs to make when they become a Christian. The new Christian has to stop saying, "I'm a sinner" and start saying, "I'm a believer". Why? Because a label describes the sphere of conduct you exist in. It causes you to see yourself there and it causes others to relate to you as one who is in that sphere. Whatever label you use for yourself helps establish you in the conduct, expectation and outlook that goes with the label. Use a negative label on yourself and it works against you. Use a positive label on yourself and it works for you.

What labels do you apply to yourself? Do an inventory. Decide which ones you're happy with and which ones you're not. Get comfortable with the positive, productive labels and drop from your speech the negative, counterproductive ones. For example, cease saying, "I'm a mess" and instead say, "I'm a new creation". Stop saying, "I'm sick" and instead say, "I'm well in Christ". 1Pet.2:24.

Labels can lock you in or lift you up!
