The Daily Guide
The Battle is the Lord's
All these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
1 Corinthians 10:11 - NKJV
The verse above explains why the ancient happenings involving God's people were written down. It says, "They were written for our admonish!" There are many such accounts that bless us by their admonish. Which story, though, gives us the most important guidance for our daily lives today? I have no problem in selecting one. For me, the story of Jehoshaphat and how the Lord fought the battle comes out tops! You'll find it in 2 Chronicles 20.
What does it show us? Well, first of all it shows God for His people. It also shows God's people realising His willingness to be for them. Besides that, it's a great story. There's tension, crisis and eventual rescue. In between there's God's people calling upon Him and God responding with great assurance and counsel. This is a story you can never exhaust for its encouragement, promise and demonstration of God's lovingkindness for His people.
I'll map out for you the highlights and then I trust you can follow the example. 1) Jehoshaphat fears but then sets himself to seek the Lord. (verse 12) 2) The word of the Lord came saying, "The battle is not yours but God's." (verses 15,17) 3) Jehoshaphat hears the Lord's counsel and determines to follow through on it. (verses 15,21) 4) The people are given courage hearing, "The Lord is with you." (verses 17,22) 5) The faith principle is declared that by believing you will established and by believing you'll prosper! (verse 20)
Follow the example our hero of faith left!
