Flourishing together

by Pastor Simon

The Lord is for me among those who help me.

Psalm 118:7 - NKJV

Have you noticed how things start to happen when you get among people of faith? Recently a lady came to our church and immediately felt a part of our church family. She'd just returned to our town under difficult circumstances after quite a number of years away. Her retired father had temporarily taken her and her children in as they had no place of their own to live in. Of course, the church rallied around in spiritual support and prayed for her situation. Since then it has been a testimony of one miracle of provision after another. Just two months after returning to the town she is in her own home and her children are happily attending good, local schools.

As a Christian, marvellous things happen in your life with God. This is true as you walk in His principles wherever in the world you are and whether you're with many or on your own. However, there's a special dynamic at work when you get yourself among believers who are gathering together in the Name of Jesus. I'm reminded of the effect of putting plants altogether in a flower bed. Apparently positive conditions for growth are created in the soil by the close proximity of their roots. They are benefited by the mingling of their roots and as a result their growth is sturdier and healthier. I guess this is a physical illustration of a spiritual truth about God's people. See Psalm 92:12-14.

It is good to be in a vibrant community of believers. Keeping company with people of faith gives you access to a blessing. Count it precious that you gather with others in the Name of Jesus. Count it precious that you benefit from being surrounded by spiritual support. Eph.4:32, Mat.18:20.

Be among those who help you in faith!
