The as-they-went principle
They (ten men who were lepers) lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" So when He saw them, He said to them, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
Luke 17:13 - 14 - NKJV
The scripture testimony "as they went, they were cleansed" has been foundational to my Christian walk of faith almost since I was saved. Right from my days as a young Christian it has flagged up for me an important faith principle. The principle is often preached with the phrase of exhortation, "You have to do the wenting!" It is the principle that a step of faith usually follows on from the request of faith in order for the thing requested to become yours. See also James 2:14-26.
I got a surprise recently when someone used the ten lepers experience of "as they went, they were cleansed" as a testimony of how prayer leads to recovery that is not always received in an instant. I had always envisioned the lepers on their journey to the priests receiving in an instant - at some instant - their cleansing from leprosy. My inclination is to think that this is how it occurred. And yet the scripture testimony of their cleansing could mean that in the process and progress of the journey they were cleansed - they arrived at their destination cleansed. Mar.16:18.
What have you requested of the Lord? Are you doing the wenting? If you have called upon the Lord in faith, have ears to hear what the corresponding action is to accompany your faith that He has heard you. If you indeed believe to receive, then look to act in a way that demonstrates that believing. Perhaps some lepers received cleansing in an instant during the "wenting" and others had it by the time they reached the destination of the "wenting". In either way, you too can receive! 1Joh.5:14-15, Mar.11:24.
Let faith have its corresponding action
