The Daily Guide
Good decision making
Teach me Your way, O Lord, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Psalm 27:11 - NKJV
The Christian life is a journey. It's a journey on which I am constantly looking to God to know His way forward. This results in me asking questions in prayer like, "What's the solution here, Lord? Which way should I take now?" Normally then I sense in my spirit a prompting or a word of guidance from the Lord. This prompting or word of guidance helps me make a decision on how to go forwards.
How good has your decision making been? If your life has got complicated you've probably been making poor decisions. Poor decisions, you see, might clear up one thing but later give rise to new complications. Christians make good decisions by following a prompting or word of guidance from the Lord. This is always available to you by God's Spirit and by God's Word. God's Spirit can prompt you in your heart or He can lead you to a word of guidance in scripture and show you its relevancy to your current situation.
Here is a list of points to follow that lead to good decision making: 1.) Ponder scriptures that have something direct to say about the matter in which you need to make a decision. Use those scriptures as light for your decision making. Psa.119:105. 2.) Guard yourself against your own understanding and common understanding of how things ought to be done. God often has different ways. Let God's Word and His Spirit have the primary role in shaping your decision. Prov.3:5-6. 3.) Guard against haste. Decisions made in haste are rarely if ever good ones. Isa.28:16. 4.) Decision making is like bed making - it helps greatly to have someone on the other side. Whenever possible, make your decisions in consultation with a mature believer with a good track record in decision making. Mat.18:16.
Let good decisions carry you into well-being
