Deeper with Jesus
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

Advent calendars and Advent devotionals are very popular among Christians. I believe behind it is a desire among those who know Christ to go spiritually deeper into the glory of what God has done by sending His Son into the world. It does need recognising though that scripture portions on an Advent calendar, though undoubtedly poignant, of themselves cannot take the Christian deeper. Likewise, Advent devotionals may present poignant thoughts but do they spiritually carry the Christian deeper?
This Advent, while the world around us is pursuing meaningless material pleasures, let's pursue a fulfilling journey deeper into what God has done for us through Jesus Christ as represented by Christmas Day. Let's go deeper into the relationship God has brought us into with Himself by sending His Son. How are we going to make this journey? By walking along the bedrock of prophetic utterances about the Christ that came by the mouths of the prophets and apostles. By walking that way under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and His wonderful whisperings of revelation to our hearts.
There is such a walk available to you in pondering the scripture I've given above. Every phrase, almost every word, in it is a step deeper in the way of revelation of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. I recommend to you this Advent taking the verses of John 1:14 - 17 pondering a different phrase of it each day. Let the Holy Spirit minister by it a fresh experience of Christmas that will spill over as a blessing into the lives of all those around you.
