The river of life
He brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist. Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim.
Ezekiel 47:3 - 5 - NKJV
How deep are you getting into the waters? How far into the river of life do you let the Lord take you? Have you ever got so deep in worship or in the water of the word that you felt your feet leave the bottom and you started to swim? The prophet's experience in a vision is to be the Christian's experience in the spirit. We are to be worshipping in spirit and truth. We are to be pondering scripture with the Holy Spirit. Joh.4:23-24.
Our Lord Jesus having loved the Church to the point of giving Himself for her now wants to wash her with the water of the word. The Bride washed in the water of the word comes up without spot or wrinkle. You and I are the Church. You and I are the Bride. Those waters offered to us are like none on earth. The believer brought into those waters comes up with a smooth and marvellous complexion able to reflect the glory of God. This is the work of the Spirit of which the apostle Paul writes, "We all...are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory." Eph.5:25-27,2Cor.3:18.
There is life in the river. The river of God flows out from the temple having its source at the throne of God. The river of God is the river of life. The prophet Ezekiel declares of it, "Everything will live wherever the river goes." It is the Christian believer who lets the Lord bring him deep into the river of life who sees in the life he now lives the fulfilment of Christ's promise, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." Rev.22:1-7,Eze.47:9,Joh.10:10.
