Blessed is the man...his delight is in the law of the Lord...he shall be like a tree...whose leaf also shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.
Psalm 1:1-3 - NKJV
What I find I need to guard against is, when I am working, not resting. My activity is most effective when I'm resting in the Lord. If I am genuinely trusting in the Lord at a given moment in a given task then I'm resting in the Lord. This is because to trust is to rely on. In trusting I am relying on the Lord to keep things in order, on track, safe and prospering. Having committed my way to the Lord and looked to the Lord for His direction I have to trust that as I go, act or speak He will be arranging my steps and setting things up for me for my good and continuance in His peace. See Psa.37:3-7, 23.
In a troubled world doing the right thing at the right time takes on special importance. We need to look to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. This will do much to prevent us falling into a horrible pit or getting stuck in miry clay - to use the language of the Psalmist. Thank the Lord He has given us the Companion, the Holy Spirit, to guide and coach us in life. You can step apart from the busyness of life and seek the Lord. You can look for the Lord in the spiritual sanctuary of prayer. In so acknowledging Him He will direct your paths. See Psa.63:1-2 and Prov.3:5-6.
As a Christian growing in the Lord there are two essential early lessons to learn about walking in daily life with the Lord. The first is seeking the Lord to know His directions and the second is committing your way to Lord so as to rest in Him. You seek the Lord best in devotional moments - whether the moment is brief or long. You commit your way to the Lord with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. These are spiritual skills. They develop in your life by practice. The more you do them the better at them you become. See Phil.4:6-7.
