The Spiritual Climate

by Pastor Simon

Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Ephesians 6:13 - NLT

I got this heart cry by email, "I have suddenly lost interest in prayers and in Bible reading though I used to actively partake in that way back in Ghana, my home country. I came to Russia and I don't just know what is happening to me." I do. It's spiritual climate shock! Spiritual climate shock occurs when you arrive in a foreign country or area and are unprepared for the difference in spiritual climate.

Have you moved or are you temporarily residing away from home? Have you been struggling spiritually in your new location? If so, maybe you are suffering from spiritual climate shock. Moving from one place to another often takes us into a different spiritual climate from the one we are used to. The spiritual climate of Russia is bound to be different from Ghana. If you aren't spiritually prepared, spiritual climate shock can result. A different spiritual climate requires different emphasis in how you are acting in life in your spiritual clothing, that is, in the whole armour of God. In Russia, for example, maybe you'll have to make much use of the sword of the Spirit. While in Ghana maybe you'll have to make much use of the shield of faith. Eph.6:10-21.

It makes me think about my children who have grown up and moved away to work in a different part of the country. How are they faring spiritually? I hope the years of being nurtured in the Lord while at home have made them ready to meet the spiritual climate skilfully in the armour of God. Maybe though they need reminding to actively engage the whole armour of God. Wherever you are, it is by the active wearing of the whole of armour of God that you will walk well with Christ.

Stand up, sharpen up!
