The new you
Do not be conformed to this world (this age),[fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind.
Romans 12:2 - Amplified Bible.
The renewing of your mind will transform you; not into someone else but into who you really are. You live in a body (flesh) and you have a soul - with emotions, a mind and a will - but you are a spirit. You are a born again Christian spirit!
When my family and I first came to live in Cheltenham we lived for a short time on a farm. The farm manager became friendly and after a few weeks he said, "We had a man staying here a while ago who was a born again Christian like you are." "Oh, yes," I said. "The only problem was," he continued, "some of his talk and behaviour wasn't like I would have expected from a Christian." I replied, "Well, it is one thing to have a born again spirit but it is another again to have a born again mind." His face showed interest so I explained, "When a person is born again his spirit is transformed immediately but it takes time and effort for him to transform his mind so that he appears to others how he has become in his spirit."
By the renewing of your mind you are transformed to reflect to others what you now are on the inside. Far from losing who you are, by the renewing of your mind you will find who you are! By the renewing of the mind the mind is liberated from the old corrupt, broken and sensuous ways of the past. The burden of constantly having to respond to and satisfy the flesh is lifted. The mind in this way becomes a faithful expression of you, the born again spirit within! Joh.15:3.
