Take courage

by Pastor Simon

The Lord spoke to Joshua saying, "I will not leave you nor forsake you. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Joshua 1:5,9 - NKJV

You have to watch your courage level. Your progress and your victory in life take courage! Take Joshua for example, with Moses gone it was up to him to get the Children of Israel into the Promised Land. What did God insist he went in with? Courage! God knew he was going to need courage to the lead the people and take the land. So God was insistent on this to the point of commanding him. He said, "Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or dismayed!"

In a later time frame, David returned home to a terrible scene of devastation at Ziglag. The village had been burned and the women and children taken. David was in great distress and this was compounded by the reaction of his men. How did he respond? What did he do? He encouraged himself in the Lord! By his worship and his focus on God's promises his courage was renewed. With renewed courage he set off after his enemies and recaptured all. 1Sam.30:6.

God has been sending encouragement to you! It has been coming to you by His Holy Spirit, by His preachers and by His Word. How well have you been taking it up? Imagine if Joshua hadn't responded well to God's encouragement. I think he and the people would remain for yet many more years circling in the wilderness instead of taking the Promised Land! Be exhorted by this. Be strong in the Lord, be bold in His Spirit - with God nothing will be impossible to you! Walk in Christ's victory! The Lord will do battle for you!

Let the Lord's courage strengthen you!
