Step in Jesus' footprints
Christ also suffered on your behalf, leaving behind for you a model to imitate, in order that...you might follow in His footprints; Who...when He was being made the object of harsh rebuke and biting, never retaliated...but rather kept on delivering all into the keeping of the One Who judges righteously.
1 Peter 2:21,23 - Wuest's Translation
What a marvellous passage to reflect on! Thank God we don't have to journey on an unmarked trail; we can step in the footprints of Jesus. Jesus got the journey in this life right. He fulfilled His purpose. He entered into glory. Now we have as a model to imitate that life He lived on earth.
Someone was struggling with a common problem and asked me, "I hate somebody. I know I should not. How can I take it away?" I responded, "Hate is more often than not born of hurt and hurt continues where there is no healing of that hurt. If you want to be free from the hate then you need to be healed of the hurt associated with it. Healing from hurt comes when the love of God is allowed to produce within you the power to forgive the person who caused the hurt. By this same power of love, you need to let drop the resentment you have against the one who hurt you." Joh.20:23.
Jesus kept letting grounds for resentment drop. Jesus never lost ground by throwing mud. You have to keep on delivering over your cause to God, being content to let Him set things right. You have to keep on letting your hurt be healed. You have to keep forgiving. The vitality of your prayer life and the vibrancy of your communion with the Lord depend on it.
Live on the trail Jesus blazed!
