Spiritual Impartations

by Pastor Simon

Above all, remember that no prophecy in scripture is a matter of private interpretation; for never did any prophecy come by human will, but men sent by God spoke as they were impelled by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21 - Weymouth's Translation

How did the writings we have in the Bible come to us? The Bible didn't come about because men and women willed it to. It came about because God's Spirit moved in the prophets to speak for the record. This record is what we now call the Bible. The prophets who gave us its scripture spoke for that record as they were borne along by God's Spirit. This is why the Bible is called God's Word.

Receiving the words we have recorded for us in the Bible was a spiritual experience for the prophets. Look for your hearing of those words to be a spiritual experience also. In hearing God's Word you want to be experiencing God's Spirit enlightening your heart. You don't want to be just operating with your head as you hear God's word. Instead you want to be engaging your spirit in the activity of hearing them. This will result in a spiritual experience. As you read and hear God's Word in this way God's Spirit will be imparting a progressive revealing of God's will and way to you! Joh.14:26, Eph.1:17-18.

By the Holy Spirit, Bible reading can be for you an encounter with God and His Word. In the Book of Revelation there are seven messages to the seven churches. Each of those messages concludes, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Likewise, as God's message comes to your ear when you reflect on scripture then hear by God's Spirit what God is saying to you by it!

Hear the Word by God's Spirit!
