Salvation brings wholeness
Jesus said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.
Luke 6:10 - NKJV
The Gospel writer brings us to the story of this restoration of wholeness with the words, "Now it happened!". It's his way of saying, "Pay attention. Here is an event that really took place!" Notice how Jesus requests an action from the disabled man that was impossible for him to do under normal circumstances. Watch how the man then puts forth the effort of a believing will and see how this results in his withered hand being made whole. He received to himself the wholeness Jesus brought to him.
Jesus makes whole. He restores what is shattered, partial or malfunctioning. God has wholeness in mind for you. He wants you to be whole in your spirit, soul and body. He wants you to have wholeness in your relationships, social situations and finances. If we talk about Jesus, we think about salvation. What is meant by the word "salvation"? It infers a restoration of wholeness! Eternal salvation infers a restoration of wholeness in our relationship with God and a corresponding wholeness in our spirits! This is a spiritual salvation. There is also restoration of wholeness through Jesus to body and soul. Act.4:10, 1Thes.5:23.
The man with the withered arm shows you how to avail yourself of what is available to you in Christ. He put forth the effort of a believing will. He moved to do what had previously been impossible. He acted on his faith with an action corresponding to his faith. Hear the word Christ is speaking into your life. Then stir yourself to act by faith upon it!
May Christ's gift of wholeness be yours!
