Give an answer

by Pastor Simon

Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

1 Peter 3:15 - KJV

Some years ago my wife and I ran a Christian lunch place as a Christian outreach. It was located in a town centre street. People from the offices in the street often popped in for sandwiches or we met them in the street and got to know them. We were looking for an opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ.

It wasn't long before people started to ask questions. One estate agent asked, "What is the secret of the way you live?" and a computer programmer asked, "How do you prosper more than me when I must be earning far more money than you?" People were asking a reason for what seemed to them impossible. They were recognising we were in possession of something they did not have but wanted. You can be sure we were ready to answer their questions! They'd seen the works of God, now they needed to hear the words of God. 2Tim.2:24-26.

The closeness of the relationship we have with God the Father through Jesus needs to be such that its effect is obvious to everyone we meet - even though they don't comprehend what they see. Then we must be ready to answer the questions that are bound to come as a result. There's a lot of people out there asking questions right now. Many times those questions are coming from people who don't know Christ. The type of questions people throw your way might get you offended or upset at times. Remember, though, those people are bewildered at what's going on around them. They may even be unsettled at your confidence. They see your peace and want to challenge it to see if it's real. Answer in patience and show them it is real!

Your answers can be someone's lifeline!
