The Sheep Of His Pasture
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
John 10:27-28 - NKJV
The voice of the Good Shepherd is heard in many Bible passages. I was reading Isaiah and I heard it in that prophet's words. It had the same caring, faithful tone about it that you hear when Jesus tells of Himself as Good Shepherd. Isaiah 43:2 begins, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers they shall not overflow you." What a precious promise! It is one I have relied on for many years. It declares the Good Shepherd's unfailing care for each of us. This promise is for you. Respond to the Good Shepherd's voice by accompanying Him where He leads and you'll see its fulfilment.
It isn't just about the good shepherd that Jesus is teaching in John 10. He is also teaching about the good sheep. What does the good shepherd do? He gives his life for the sheep. What do good sheep do? They follow the good shepherd! Good sheep are responsive to the Good Shepherd. They hear His voice and accompany Him as He leads them to better pasture. How well are you doing as a good sheep?
Jesus is out there ahead of you. He has laid down a trail for you, out of desolate places into pastures of tender grass. He's a Good Shepherd. He knows you. He calls you. He looks for you to follow. Jesus is trying to lead you out of trouble so He can lead you in to peace. He won't jump in front of you and drag you out. He's expecting you to follow Him out. Are you responding? Are you following? Be a good sheep and you'll come to good pasture!
Good sheep heed the Shepherd's voice!
