Leadership And Followship

by Pastor Simon

Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery.

Hebrews 13:17 - Message Translation.

How's your attitude towards your church pastor? What sort of notice do you take of his instruction and counsel during times of ministry in the church? The Bible has exhortations about this, the verse above is an example. There are also some great promises attached to our attitude to God's ministers. Here's one as an example, "Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets (those who tell forth divine counsels), so shall ye prosper." 2Chron.20:20

Good sheep are good followers of the shepherd. It is not only with the Good Shepherd, Jesus, that you need to be a good sheep. You also need to be a good sheep with the good shepherd (pastor) of your church. Bible believing, Spirit-filled churches mostly have good shepherd pastors to benefit, bless and prosper them. Get in on that. Hear their good counsel and instruction. Be sure you don't miss out through unresponsiveness! The apostle Paul was a good shepherd and he wrote, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." 1Tim.5:17, 2Cor.11:1.

Your church pastor is a good shepherd if he is laying down his life for the church sheep because the love of Christ is urging and impelling him. Honour him for this, don't give him a hard time instead give him joy. Be responsive to his exhortations. Pray for him. Encourage him by your actions. I can tell you, your pastor's joy will be to see you walking in truth! See 3 John 5.

Be a joy to your pastor!
