How To Run The Race!
Let us strip off everything that hinders us, as well as the sin which dogs our feet, and let us run the race that we have to run with patience, our eyes fixed on Jesus the source and the goal of our faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2 - J.B.Phillips' Translation
There's a race for us to run! Jesus could have just taken us off to Heaven the moment we got saved but instead He left us to run in this race that He first ran. He's our role model. He fulfilled the purpose on earth for which He was sent by the Father. Now we have taken over the baton from Him. 1Joh.3:8b.
You have a race set before you. In running it you will be fulfilling in this life your role as a child of God. By running you will be fulfilling the purpose for which Christ made you His own. Then, as your life on this earth reaches its end, you will be able to say as Paul said, "I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and now I have a crown of righteousness awaiting me." Ro.8:29, Phil.3:12, 2Tim.4:7-8.
Here's the strategy for success in this race: 1) Realise you're in this race for the long haul - it's not a sprint it's an endurance event. Be prepared for uphill climbs. Enjoy the downhill runs when they come. 2) Like an athlete strips for action, give to Jesus all that would hinder you. (Let Him empower you.) 3) Clear away from your feet the sin that would sooner or later trip you up. 4) Fix your attention wholly on Jesus. (This is the most important part in the strategy!) Jesus is ahead of you. He's run the race successfully already. He'll show you how to do it.
Let Jesus set the pace, let Him lead the way!
