Be blessed!

by Pastor Simon

O the bliss of those who realise the destitution of their own lives, for the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven are theirs here and now.

Matthew 5:3 - William Barclay's Translation

We call it the Sermon of the Mount. In it Jesus taught the disciples about those who are blessed of God in this world. In the verse above we hear Jesus declare "those who realise the destitution of their own lives" are blessed. In other words, it is those who realise that what they have out of themselves in this life is like poverty compared to what God has in store and makes available.

In my early years as a Christian, I thought my natural talents and educational background were just what was needed for the Lord's service. As a result, I leaned heavily on that background and those talents. Imagine my bewilderment when I found that background and those talents weren't a match for the challenge of Christian service. I found myself failing and experiencing little of the blessings of God. Then the Holy Spirit opened my eyes. I saw that on an eternal scale there was a destitution about my life. That realisation caused me to seek the Lord, His presence, His power, His provision and His blessings.

The apostle Paul entered into the place of blessing spoken of by Jesus in the Sermon of the Mount. All Paul's marvellous accomplishments came out of his recognition that outside of God he had nothing to offer in life. Although he had everything going for him in the natural - the right background, education, associations and aptitudes - he realised it amounted to no more than a pile of rubbish compared to what God had available for him. Paul accessed what was God's. By it, he enjoyed the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven here and now. Let's walk after his example. Phil.3:4-8

You can have Kingdom blessings in your life!
