Re-establishing Health

by Pastor Simon

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.

James 5:14-15 - NKJV.

You get step by step directions on what to do when you are sick in that scripture passage above from the epistle of James. In acting on that counsel you are being practical about your spirituality. I am quick to act on that counsel. If I'm under any degree of attack from any kind of sickness the first thing I do is pray for myself. As I do this, I petition the Lord for healing and present to Him in my prayer one of His precious promises. I am diligent to see to it that my prayer follows a scriptural pattern.

This is usually all that's needed for health to get re-establish in me. At times, though, I sense as I pray that more is needed. If I do, I call my wife to pray with me and agree with me before the Lord for my healing. This is usually sufficient for me to see my health restored. Neverthelss, there are times when I recognise more even than this is needed. At such a time I call for the elders of the church. I thank the Lord that I have some faithful elders who will travel all the way across town to pray over me when needed.

I've had some wonderful healings this way. For example, on one occasion my urine was red with blood and there was an excruciating pain in my bladder area. I prayed for myself but the urine still showed blood red. I prayed with my wife, Ruth, but afterwards it still showed red. Then I called the elders to come and pray for me. They prayed and just two hours or so later all symptoms and pain had stopped.

Be practical about your spirituality, act on God's Word
