A whole experience of God
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in him!
Psalm 34:8 - KJV
The Lord is good. The psalmist calls us to be more than onlookers to that truth. He calls us to be experiencers of it too. Do more than see how good He is, take up the challenge to taste how good He is. The word "taste" there is a fascinating choice of word. To taste literally means to try the relish of something with your tongue. In the Bible, we frequently hear this word used in a metaphorical, illustrative way. The Holy Spirit by it conveys God's desire for us to truly experience God as good. 1Pet.2:3; Mat.16:28.
I am reminded of my children when they were babies. They put everything in their mouths. They wanted more than just the sight, sound, smell and feel of the things. They wanted to have a total experience of things by getting the taste of them too. They put them in their mouths as the ultimate test of just how good they might be. Anything that then turned out bitter they spit it out and anything that was sweet they relished and desired more! Well, God doesn't intend for us to be experimentally tasting the bitter, rather He wants us to be hearing His counsel about what is good. Nevertheless, having done that, He wants us to taste what is good as the baby does.
God calls you to be satisfied with nothing less than a total experience of the Lord and His goodness. In your relationship with God, do not stop short at only a look from a distance or an occasional, slight touch. You can have a total experience of God. Embrace Him and have a whole experience Him. As you do, you'll come to know just how sweet He is.
Experience the Lord to satisfaction!
