Pilgrim's Progress

by Pastor Simon

I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection! But I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be.

Philippians 3:12 - NLT

I thought I'd got this particular matter in my life sorted out but just as I thought I'd made it then I tripped up and fell again. Now I must look at my preparation of the Gospel of peace. In other words, I have to check my Gospel shoes. Those shoes are a very important part of the whole armour of God. They are for standing firm without falling. I need to allow the Holy Spirit to teach me again from God's Word how to walk in that footwear. Eph.6:15

None of us have made it yet into perfection in this life. We all have to keep working toward being all that Jesus saved us to be. We've got to keep going toward perfection. This will mean getting up from our falls, dusting ourselves off and looking again for a way to progress toward the perfection which is spiritual maturity. Give God an opportunity to show you from His Word how you can make it in the future in spite of the falls of the past.

Step apart daily from the busyness of your life to pray. Open your Bible and have it in front of you. Ask the Father in the name of Jesus, "Lord, let me know your counsel for life and godliness in me today!" I find I'm encouraged in my faith for this by being able to present to the Lord the following promise from His Word, "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go." I recommend you likewise make your request with that promise. Isa.48:17.

Get up again! Pray! Learn from God's Spirit!
